"We are burning for help" - "Irons have melted" - The first testimonies from the train collision in Tempe are shocking
There are no words to describe what the passengers of the trains that collided in Tempe are describing.
A passenger who spoke to SKAI TV reported that he lived through hell.
"Only iron remained, the front wagons caught fire," he said while adding that "there was no braking. The train immediately hit and derailed."
One of the passengers, Lazos, described the time of the collision: "What we experienced is shocking. There are definitely injured people, now they are talking about dead people as well."
"I boarded the train at Larissa station, where it arrived at least an hour late. We started, I sat in the carriages with seats and suddenly we heard a deafening noise from ahead. The carriage jolted, causing many passengers to be thrown into the air and injured. People were screaming, I haven't hit, but I'm covered in blood from people who were injured near me," he added.
"We do not confirm the number of dead, as long as the operation is ongoing. The priority is rescue and care at the moment" said, at the same time, government sources, as they tried to "collect" the tragedy caused by the government's abandonment of the railways.
A 19-year-old female passenger, who had started with the train crash from Athens at 19:22, describes what happened and how she was saved.
“We started normally at 7:22. I was in the fourth carriage. Suddenly, shortly after Larissa we felt a jolt. We all fell down, windows were broken, some wagons caught fire. The smoke was thick. We looked for a passage to get out and when we found it we started running away, because we were afraid of an explosion."
Then, together with some others, they went out into a side street. "Someone pulled us up with a rope and we got out. A bus driver, who was passing by, stopped and picked up those who left. At the moment we are approaching Thessaloniki", he says.
"I saw many wounded and trapped. They were shouting and asking for water and coats, because it was cold."
It is noted that according to thesstoday, the relatives burst into tears and hugs as soon as they saw their families and friends, who arrived with the first KTEL bus, after the tragic accident that happened in Tempi.
Shortly before 2 in the evening, the first bus arrived at the OSE station, which was filled with 50 people. Among others, there were many wounded, with blood on their clothes and faces, who burst into sobs as soon as they realized they were safe and now with their relatives.
"We heard people shouting we are burning, it's shocking. I'm still in a state of shock," a train passenger tells ThessToday.gr.

A few hours earlier, electric cables fell on a train, trapping hundreds of passengers at the Paleofarsalos station...
The fact that on Tuesday afternoon there was yet another incident in which luckily there was only inconvenience to the Hellenic Train passengers makes an impression everywhere, as on Tuesday afternoon another problem arose with a train running the Athens - Thessaloniki route.
The train had reached Paleofarsalos and while the passengers were disembarking, there was an explosion in the electric cables hanging above the train.
According to a statement
from the Hellenic Train company, the IC 56 train remained at the Palaiofarsalos station with a "significant delay", due to a "technical problem with the electric propulsion cable".
According to the first information, cited by the "Newspaper of the Editors", the train had reached Paleofarsalos and when the passengers were getting off, an explosion occurred in the power cables, which are hanging above the train.
The fact that the explosion had the consequence of cutting the 25,000 volt cable and falling onto the train is considered unprecedented.
Hellenic Train emphasizes in another post that due to the delay, the route will be carried out by buses from Paleofarsalo to Larissa, Katerini, Platy and Thessaloniki.
Only a few days have passed since a Hellenic Train train caught fire, just outside the Thessaloniki railway station.
While about two weeks ago, a train running the Larissa - Athens route was left just outside Oinoi due to a mechanical failure...
What's really going on? Is it negligent and criminally deficient maintenance of the Hellenic Train or are we dealing with an ongoing sabotage attempt...?
